Invest in Tom Baxter!

Hello Everyone,

I have exciting news…

Following on from the success I had in self-financing Skybound, I have spent the last few months setting up an investment opportunity for my next two albums. The funds raised will provide for the recording, release, marketing and touring of The Uncarved Block – Part One & Part Two. It will also enable me to create artwork and other merchandise as part of the project.

The scheme we are using is a new way of funding a creative venture, and I believe it will be the way forward for many artists in the future: private investment means the artist retains greater creative control and flexibility in how the records are created, marketed and released. There are attractive tax benefits for investors under the Seed Enterprise
Investment Scheme (SEIS) and they get the opportunity to be a part of a creative venture with a relatively low-risk profile compared to other SEIS investment opportunities.

I’m fortunate to be working with my friend Chris Ward of Ward Connections, who is raising finance and setting up the investment structure. Chris’s combined passion for my music and his experience in finance has inspired him to spearhead this project. He’s at the top of his game and has done an amazing job: we’re well on the way with half the funds already committed.

We felt passionately that once we hit the halfway mark we would open it up to my fans to give you the opportunity to be a patron of my work and invest in something you love.

We are seeking investment from high net worth individuals or sophisticated investors, and there are specific legal requirements you must meet in order qualify. This is not a crowd-sourced project, but we are looking at ways to include crowd-sourced funding to give more of you the opportunity to take part.

If you are a high net worth individual or a sophisticated investor (or know someone who is!) and would like to get involved please email tbinvest@spencerbm.com and the we’ll send you more information.

We look forward to hearing from you!

A letter from Tom

Dear Friend,

It has been sometime since I last wrote to you, and now I want to explain my lack of public activity over recent months.

I spent most of 2012 writing and then recording with the band, and although I was pleased with many elements (the tracks on the Golden EP come from these sessions) as a whole, I didn’t feel there was an album there. After investing so much into the project I made made the very difficult choice of shelving the album. Looking back now I realise I was trying to produce a record as my marriage fell apart. The combination didn’t work for me.

The recording of The Uncarved Block – Part One and the subsequent tour in March last year took place in the weeks after my wife and I separated. If you saw me on tour I think it was obvious I was going through a tough time relationship wise. Although it was a period of great sadness and uncertainty, the recording and touring kept me sane: I was surrounded by good friends in the studio and on stage, and I had you wonderful lot with me at every show! However, I did struggle after that and spent the rest of 2013 dealing with the fallout from the abrupt end of an eleven year relationship.

I’m happy to say that life has picked up since. I’m off my knees and back in the drivers seat! So, I’m writing 2013 off: consigning it to the emotional trashcan, chalking it up to experience and letting it become part of my life’s crazy patchwork quilt. I’m looking to the future.

I am incredibly proud of The Uncarved Block – Part One. The work I did with the band in Devon, Spain and LA has brought me full circle, and Part One is the record I set out to make before any studio work started. I apologise to those of you who haven’t been able to attend a show and buy a copy of it. This will change in the coming months, as my current priority is to get a full release for Part One, and start recording and setting up the release of Part Two. This is an exciting prospect, and I’m hoping that some of you may be able to get involved with backing this financially (more information on that below!). Part One will be on sale at the shows, but in the meantime here’s a full length version of String and Bow for you to listen to.

Finally, if you came to a live show last year, or were one of the many who wrote to me with such kind words about my music – thank you. I may not reply to every message, but each one means a lot to me.

SEE YOU SOON!

Tom Baxter
